I was gifted an Owlet Smart Sock back in November. A Smart Sock is a baby monitor that you put on your baby’s foot and then through an app, it tracks your child’s heart rate, oxygen level and sleep patterns. One night, our son was having some mild cold symptoms, but nothing that made us overly concerned.
On Wednesday night, we were notified five different times that his oxygen levels were too low. I checked on him after each red notification and he seemed comfortable, so I reset his Smart Sock. In the morning I decided to call the nurse line at our doctor’s office to see if we should have our son seen. I took him in and the doctor checked a few of his vitals and then immediately started to hook him up to machines as he called for the ambulance. We were taken to the nearby Children’s Hospital where we currently are while he gets spoiled with the best of care.
I share our story because I want to encourage those of you with little ones to invest in an Owlet Smart Sock! I have no doubt that it gave us the information we needed to help save Maddon’s life. I debated even taking him into the doctor as his signs and symptoms didn’t seem to match the low oxygen notifications. I’m so thankful for this technology and for it notifying me before things could have gotten much worse.
