We were given the Smart Sock back in 2018 when our first son was born and never had any notifications except low oxygen only once or twice. So when our second son was born in March 2020 we bought a new sock and started using it on our new baby. Cruz is now 9 months old and the Smart Sock notifications had not ever gone off.

On Monday night, we put him to bed like usual at 7 pm. Fifteen minutes later, the Owlet Smart Sock’s red notification went off and his heart rate was over 220 BPM. My husband and I thought it must be an error since our baby was in a deep sleep at the time. So we put him back down and almost immediately it went off again telling us the same thing. This time we got him out of bed, readjusted the sock and after tracking his heart rate for about 20 minutes, his heart rate never dropped below 205 and was consistently hovering at 215. We made the decision to take him to pediatric urgent care and there it was 224 BPM. They immediately told me to go to a local children’s hospital ER. His heart rate got up to 250 BPM.

We were then transported by ambulance from the local hospital to the Children’s Medical Center. This is where they had a cardiologist on staff and could monitor him properly. I cannot tell you the number of doctors and nurses that kept saying how much of a miracle it was that the Smart Sock notified us early. They explained most babies show no signs of this until their heart has been in arrhythmia for 48 hours or longer and only after that period will they begin to show signs of lethargy, loss of appetite, etc. and by that time there could have quite possibly been extensive damage to the heart.

All of this to truly thank all of those at Owlet. There’s no amount of gratitude words can express for what the Owlet Smart Sock did so we could help our baby. I want you all to know that what you’re doing is making a difference everyday.
