What is Nursery of Hope?
Each year, Owlet Cares donates trees to our foundation partners. Owlet’s Nursery of Hope welcomes parents, families and friends into a nationwide community where we plant legacy trees in memory of babies who are gone but never forgotten.
Through our ongoing partnership with parent-led organizations across the country, the Nursery of Hope will continue to grow and welcome families who need a place to honor their little ones.
FAQs
Why is Owlet supporting SIDS research?
Owlet is joining forces with parents across the world to bring an end to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) during SIDS Awareness Month. Owlet is partnering with two moms who both lost a baby to SIDS, Dr. Carmel Harrington (add affiliation) and Elisha Palmer of Knox Blocks Foundation, to raise critical funds, support research, and inspire action to create change.
Sudden Infant Unexpected Death (SUID), which includes SIDS, claims the lives of more than 3,000 babies each year in the U.S. alone1. The rate of SIDS is on the rise in the U.S.2 – making it one of the leading causes of infant mortality3. Despite this, there is minimal education, funding, and attention for this global health crisis.
Dr. Harrington, who lost her son to SIDS 30 years ago, made a significant breakthrough by identifying a potential biomarker in babies who passed away from SIDS. The next phase of her team’s work is to identify the array of biomarkers that will enable them to determine which babies are at a higher risk of SIDS, with the end goal of developing and providing access to preventative screenings for every baby across the globe. This research is more important than ever and with funding being non-existent, the time for action is now because we believe no baby should die unexpectedly in their sleep.
