Where Grief and Joy Coexist: Navigating a Rainbow Pregnancy

Owlet Cares is our advocacy initiative that is dedicated to making a positive impact in the lives of babies and parents. One way we do this is by partnering with nonprofits all over the world who share our mission. Each month, we shine a spotlight on one of our foundation partners and the important work they are doing.

This month, in honor of National Rainbow Baby Day, we’d like to introduce you to No Foot Too Small - an organization dedicated to increasing awareness about pregnancy and infant loss.

Owlet is proud to partner with No Foot Too Small on their Rainbow Baby Project where we donate two Dream Duos a month to families in their community who are expecting subsequent pregnancies after loss. We also recently became a sponsor of their monthly Pregnancy After Loss support groups

In one mom’s words, here is how connections formed through No Foot Too Small positively impacted her rainbow pregnancy.

Today was a full-circle moment in the most beautiful of ways.

After losing Lola, I found No Foot Too Small (NFTS). I was incredibly fortunate to discover a community of compassionate, supportive people who helped carry me through some of my darkest days.

Through NFTS, I’ve built lifelong friendships - one of the most meaningful being with Jenny Durand. We met virtually in support groups and eventually connected in person at a NFTS Mom’s Group in Cedar Rapids. We clicked instantly. Both of us have endured multiple losses and struggled with infertility, and it was our parallel paths to our rainbow babies that really bonded us.

When I found out I was expecting Sullivan, I knew I wanted to share the news with Jenny privately. As someone who understands how deeply grief and joy can coexist, I knew even the happiest announcements can stir complicated emotions for those still waiting. I never doubted she’d be thrilled our time had come - but I wanted to honor her journey by giving her the space to process it on her own terms. However, sharing the news looked a little differently than I had planned!

Just a day or two after that first positive test, I joined a NFTS Pregnancy After Loss group (supported by Owlet) - and was stunned to see Jenny’s face on the screen. She, too, had just found out she was pregnant!

From that moment on, we shared everything. We celebrated, cried, vented, worried, encouraged each other, and walked hand-in-hand through the rollercoaster of pregnancy after loss.

As our due dates approached and inductions were scheduled, it felt like our angels were working behind the scenes - smiling down, knowing something magical was unfolding. Our inductions were set for the same day. While we both thought our boys might come prior to induction, we couldn’t help but wonder how incredible it would be if they were born on the same day.

Then May 18th arrived - and we were still pregnant. That day, as we texted back and forth while laboring in different hospitals, we laughed, supported one another, and shared in every moment of anticipation. Just hours apart, we both welcomed our rainbow boys into the world.

Today, we met at the park. Our older daughters played, we caught up on life, and - most heartwarmingly - our sons met for the very first time.

The weather was perfect, but the real beauty was seeing our boys together, side by side - a living reminder of the strength, heartache, and hope that brought us here.

NFTS brought us to the same table, but it was the loss, grief, infertility, joy, and these two precious boys that made us family.
