Celebrating International Self-Care Day with Owlet

Life as a new parent is busy, and self-care is more important than ever.

Between work, family, and an ever-growing to-do list, it's easy to put yourself last. But taking care of your mental and physical wellbeing isn't a luxury. It's a necessity.

Every year on July 24th, we celebrate International Self-Care Day — an annual observance created by the International Self-Care Foundation to encourage people to prioritize their health and happiness. Whether that means getting outside, meditating, or simply unplugging at the end of a long day, self-care looks different for everyone.

Whether you’re new to self-care or just need some inspiration, the Owlet Marketing Team shares what self-care actually looks like in their busy lives right now. Here's what's helping them recharge:

  • “My self-care has evolved into trying to create and notice joy in the simple moments of everyday life. It’s a workout that gives me energy, a long walk with a podcast, coffee outside before my family wakes up, or focusing on and appreciating a family dinner, or neighbor kids running all over my house and backyard.” - Krista W.
  • “Being a full-time working mom, self-care looks a little different now than it used to. These days it simply looks like putting the phone down and being present in whatever I am doing, along with my new habit of daily gratitude journaling.” - Valerie M.
  • “As a working mom with two little ones, finding time for self-care can be a challenge but it’s more important than ever. These days, my favorite way to take care of myself is waking up early, doing a quick morning yoga flow, and having a glass of water with lemon before my family wakes.” - Amanda N.
  • “These days, self-care is all about the little things: finding time to get outside, actually doing my skincare, watching a new TV show, or putting on a good podcast. Finding those small moments to unplug at the end of the day make all the difference while trying to balance work, life, and motherhood.” - Ashley P.
  • “As a working mom of two young daughters, self-care time is limited. I look for pockets of time when I can grab a little me time, whether it's the gym, a dance class, running errands with my favorite music blasting, or sneaking in a nap. I make space to just be Marissa.” - Marissa B.
  • "As a mom of a busy toddler, I’ve learned to appreciate the little moments that help me recharge. My favorite forms of self-care are curling up under a cozy blanket with a good book, snuggling with my cats, and treating myself to an iced coffee in the morning. When the day winds down, you can usually find me relaxing with a little reality TV.” - Tina B.
  • “My favorite form of self-care is a long bath at the end of the day when the baby is in bed. I'll light a candle, put on my current favorite show, and simply relax. It's the perfect way to unwind and recharge after a busy day.” - Josi PG.
  • “Before kids, when I worked in NYC (where the after-work options felt endless), self-care meant trying the latest wellness trend. Bungee workouts, barre, meditation, rooftop or hot yoga. If it promised balance, I wanted to try it. Now, with a 7-month-old and a 4-year-old, self-care and balance is a few quiet minutes, a Headspace meditation, and a cup of coffee before the ice melts.” - Kristen L.
