Infertility Awareness Week: An Owlet employee shares his journey to parenthood

At Owlet, we know the journey to parenthood looks different for everyone. In honor of Infertility Awareness Week, we recognize the courage and resilience of those facing infertility.

That’s why we are passionate about ensuring that our employees have access to a benefits plan that covers up to $10,000 for infertility treatments - a benefit only 40% of companies in the US offer.

We are committed to supporting our working and hopeful parents and are proud to share our colleague’s story. We stand with him and you no matter where you're at in your parenting journey.

The quotes, stories, and experiences included here are those of the individuals and are not representative of Owlet's views or claims about our product. Individuals were not paid and did not submit their information as part of any paid promotion by Owlet.

I've been at Owlet for several years now. As each childless year for my wife and I passed, it became more and more difficult having the daily reminder that, as I was working to help other babies, we weren't yet lucky enough to have our own. However, as those feelings became more and more real, so did my resolve that I wanted to be sure I did everything possible within my sphere to ensure that Owlet's technology was available for my future children whenever they came.

A few years ago, without knowing of the infertility struggles my wife and I were experiencing, Owlet announced they would start providing a fertility benefit. The timing could not have been more perfect for us. We started seeing our fertility doctor a little over 2 years ago. We went through 3 failed IUIs before being told that IVF was the next step.

After a mentally and physically taxing round of IVF, we were lucky enough to get pregnant with our first transfer! Everything was going perfectly until our 10 week appointment where we found our little miracle, who had shown no signs of struggle in previous check ups, no longer had a heart beat. We were devastated. 3 months later, we were due for our second transfer. We received the first positive pregnancy test the week of Christmas 2023. We were equal parts ecstatic and cautiously optimistic.

After a remarkably smooth pregnancy, our second miracle baby was born in Summer 2024. When assessing the final bills for all the fertility treatments, what would have been over $22,000 if paying out-of-pocket cost us about $4,000. Knowing we had Owlet's financial support made the decision to undertake our journey so much easier. She has been everything we ever could have hoped for. We will forever be grateful to Owlet for going the extra mile to fulfill their mission of Every Baby by helping us finally have our own and giving us the peace of mind we have needed to help us feel our little miracle is safe.
