"I've recommended Owlet ever since we had this incident. Our Dream Sock is probably the reason why I have peace of mind when my child sleeps. My son is my first and only child. There was a point within his first couple months where I felt like I was really getting the hang of bedtime. I could tell how long it would take for him to fall asleep. I knew the exact moment it would happen. I would wait just 5 minutes later to make sure that transferring him to his crib wouldn't wake him. I thought I had it all figured out.
Well, one night I forgot to put his Dream Sock on and I thought, "you know, nothing alarming has happened, maybe he could go one night without." I was tired and just wanted to get to bed. My husband, thankfully, disagreed. So we put his Dream Sock on and restarted our bedtime routine.
Everything happened as expected. He got to that point where I knew I had 5 minutes left before he was out and I could get my exhausted self to bed. That's when the red notification went off. I thought it was a false alarm, but I turned him to make sure he would react. He didn't. I called his name, and moved him around a little more. Nothing. I stood up with him trying to move him and was almost yelling his name at this point. Still, just limp. My husband was next to me at this point and thought to rub his feet to wake him. Eventually that's what brought him back. I've never been so happy to hear a baby cry.
The notification on the Base Station let us know his pulse rate had dropped. That was it. We spent the night in the ER that night. They did tests and monitored him but nothing was wrong. We scheduled an appointment with his pediatrician to talk to her about it and she classified it as BRUE (Brief Resolved Unexplained Event). I had never heard of BRUE and I still fully don’t understand it, but I am grateful that Owlet helped me catch his low pulse rate." - Shannon R.
